Children’s Gym that Serves Kids with Autism & Special Needs Opens in Southern Metro Region

We Rock the Spectrum Opens New Location in Moorabbin, VIC

Moorabbin, VIC – June 11th, 2020: We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym, an international children’s gym franchise, announces the Opening of its Sensory Facility: We Rock the Spectrum – Moorabbin.

A chance meeting at childcare drop off a decade ago saw local mums Lisa Thomasson and Rebecca Mercuri recognise they were on similar journeys with their children with disabilities.Thomasson said – ‘We were both struggling to keep up with the extra demands of our kids with disabilities and having a friend over the years who understood our family life, has just been brilliant.’

Teacher, Mercuri and Nurse, Thomasson are now taking their connection to the next level, joining forces to open the South’s first NDIS Registered Sensory Play gym for kids of all abilities – We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym – Moorabbin.

We Rock the Spectrum is a sensory gym group that provides sensory-safe play for kids with autism, special needs, and neurotypical development. Each gym features therapeutic equipment and sensory beneficial play opportunities. This equipment is specifically designed to work with many of the sensory processing issues that children on the spectrum face, while providing all children with the sensory-diet necessary for improved learning and neurological development.

Mother of an Autistic child from California, Dina Kimmel, is the CEO and Founder of We Rock the Spectrum. Kimmel opened the first gym in California after her son diagnosed with autism and she struggled to find a safe place where both her son and daughter could go together. The motto for all We Rock the Spectrum gyms is “Finally a place where you never have to say I’m sorry!”

After struggling for so many years to find inclusive and sensory-safe social and play opportunities for their own families, Rebecca and Lisa are excited to open a place where children of all abilities can come to play and benefit developmentally and socially and where nobody ever has to say, “I’m sorry!”

Mercuri says ‘We are excited about impacting the special needs community of the Southern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne by providing an NDIS Registered sensory space for inclusive play, respite, therapeutic supports, parties, all abilities classes and group activities. It’s going to be amazing.’

Whilst We Rock the Spectrum – Moorabbin can’t open to the general public as planned due to current COVID-19 restrictions, as an NDIS Registered Provider they will be opening for Private Sessions, Low Capacity Groups and Respite.

Thomasson says ‘We know the experience of feeling excluded and we are proud to be offering a place where kids and their families will feel accepted and celebrated. We like to think we are changing the world, one swing, zipline or jump at a time.’

We Rock the Spectrum – Moorabbin will be opening for NDIS Supported Private Sessions, Open Play Sessions, Excursions and Respite from June 13th, 2020.

Further services will be offered as restrictions are eased.
